TV TEM boosts its digital transformation through AD Digital's cloudification consultancy
Project discussed the impact of migration in various areas of the production chain to the cloud and its results in the short, medium and long term
According to Gartner estimates, 51% of companies' IT spending will be concentrated on cloud solutions in the coming years, with the process accelerating in several markets.
At the end of 2022, TV Tem hired AD Digital for a cloudification consultancy, with the aim of reducing friction in the adoption of cloud solutions and drawing up a plan towards the transformation of parts of the broadcaster's ecosystem, which is in line with of the scenario predicted by Gartner.
Who is TV Tem?
TV TEM is a network of Globo affiliated stations with generators in Bauru, Itapetininga, São José do Rio Preto and Sorocaba, in addition to branches in Botucatu, Marília, Araçatuba and Jundiaí.
The group has the largest coverage in the state of São Paulo, covering 318 municipalities that form a region with 8.3 million inhabitants, around 49% of the interior of São Paulo.
The challenge
TV Tem needed to make decisions, together with its technology team, regarding investments to be made due to the obsolescence of part of the technology park that makes up its infrastructure.
With a series of new initiatives, such as the Tem Mais portal, the purchase of rights to all events in the region and involvement with Mídia Out Off Home, a question arose within the communications group: how cloud solutions can impact the flow of content production? Given this scenario, the team's biggest concerns were cost reduction and process review.
Co-creation
TV Tem's objective when consulting AD Digital was to understand which cloud solutions were possible to migrate given its current technology resources. “The main point for TV Tem was to understand a little more about the viability of each scenario. Having this report in hand, which was created with the support of the group's teams and the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), making a strategic decision would be much clearer”, highlights Daniela Souza, SVP of Business at AD Digital.
With this demand from TV Tem, the AD Digital team of consultants began co-creation work, carrying out a assessment in the environment in order to evaluate the entire ecosystem and its applications, considering operating costs. By analyzing the data collected in comparison to cloud solutions and, through a detailed report, presented on a “dashboard”, it was possible to define which solutions were most suitable for the cloudification process.
Business benefits
Accessibility, flexibility, speed and security are the cloud resources that have made technology consolidate itself as a revolutionary trend in the business world.
“There is no business strategy without adopting cloud computing.” This was the speech of Gartner's Senior Research Director, Henrique Cecci, during a recent event at one of the world's giant cloud providers.
Among the main benefits of cloud computing are:
- Cost-benefit: it is possible to eliminate expenses with the purchase of hardware and software, maintenance and updating of a physical data center;
- Speed: processing large amounts of data in just a few minutes, making the entire process very flexible and fast;
- Productivity: IT management tasks are eliminated, which in turn allows your team to focus their efforts on business strategy;
- Performance: Cloud computing services run in data centers based around the world and are updated regularly. This is how the performance of users using cloud services increases;
- Security: It is an important aspect when it comes to storing data. Most cloud service providers offer the user a wide range of security measures and technologies, allowing users to keep their data safe and secure.
Structure
TV Tem asked AD Digital to assess the technical and financial feasibility of migrating to the cloud on four fronts: media flow, transcoding, collection and live production.
The structuring of this report included the survey, cataloging of TV Tem's systems and processes and the operation of these infrastructures. “We mapped what the media flow is like, we surveyed all the assets that operate on these four selected fronts”, emphasizes Bruno Rocha, Solutions Architect at AD Digital.
In a second moment, everything that was raised by the client was validated. The third step was modeling the solutions on the cloud platform, GCP. “At this point, we were able to give the client a complete view from a technical and financial point of view,” says Rocha.
Based on this result, the group built a clearer migration timeline, allowing the cloudification process to happen in a way that is most aligned with the business objectives and market moment. One of the clearest effects was the possibility of taking the entire content operation that was carried out in the regions to Sorocaba, optimizing investments and the flow of content.
According to Hugo Carvalho, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of AD Digital, customer documentation and technical survey were essential to the success of the project. “When we received the documentation, we made comparisons of the viability of cloud applications considering the cost issue. The client’s maturity made all the difference in the construction of the project”, he comments.
According to Carvalho, some scenarios met all the necessary conditions and requirements for migration. “Be it the technical maturity of the solution as well as the economic efficiency, an example of the archiving, it was possible to predict an average annual savings of 79%”
Delivery
The delivery to TV Tem was the result of a consultancy and co-creation service for cloudification on four fronts. AD Digital consultants provided a cloud dashboard with a complete feasibility analysis of the solutions. This way, the client has a source of consultation that goes beyond the current scenario, is independent of time, simply requiring the information to be updated regularly.
“We brought a high-level financial vision that analyzes the business as a whole and not just technology. The dashboard was delivered in the cloud, in a structured database, that is, it is a living document, as updates are made”, adds Hugo Carvalho.
Customer insight
In the opinion of Ewerton Maciel, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at TV Tem, the objective of the consultancy was to support changes in some crucial areas both in the operational format and in the solutions used. “We needed a mapping of real needs with a cloud provider, which allowed us to make a long-term comparison of possible gains”, highlights the executive.
The TV Tem team intended to implement changes that would bring business and technological efficiency. This means stopping using solutions in the capex model and starting to hire in opex, which is the premise of cloud. “Both as a technical and business solution, it was possible to realize that what was suggested in the consultancy was better than what we had operated until then”, he adds.
Still in Maciel's words, of the four points visited, the migration of one is ongoing and there are two others that will be migrated as soon as the applications are properly revisited. “Some of them, due to the way they were built, make cloud use unfeasible. And this is a vision that we also have thanks to the level of maturity, which is very different from when we started using the cloud. The material delivered by the AD Digital team was very assertive, it was what I expected, in the right measure to defend a project. It gave us confidence in the vision that it is the most effective way to migrate technology. We presented the content to the entire c-level of the company and received approval”, emphasizes the executive.
